School Counseling

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Harpeth High school counseling program is to work together as a team of counselors, teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community members to provide programs for all studnets in the areas of career, academic, and personal/social development.

 

Services Provided:

Individual Counseling:  An opportunity for students to talk freely and confidentially about any concerns or problems they may be having.

Referrals: Counselors help studnets and their families find appropriate services in teh community when they are in need.

Academic Assistance:

  • Help students register for appropriate classes
  • Make tutoring referrals
  • Give academic support
  • Monitor grade level advancement
  • Monitor credit recovery
  • Make sure all students are on track to graduate 

Career Assistance:

  • Help students register for college
  • Offer advice and resources for starting a career
  • Help students find information about scholarships that are available

Personal/Social Assistance:

  • Family concerns
  • Conflict resolution
  • Dealing with relationships
  • Social skills
  • Goal setting
  • Making good choices
  • Coping with death or serious illness

 

Confidentiality:

As counselors, we try to keep the counseling sessions with our students confidential.  We want them to trust us and feel safe when they come to talk to us. If we find that a student is going to harm themselves in any way, is planning on harming someone else, or someone is harming them; then we must break confidentiality and inform the appropriate people.
