In response to a potential misunderstanding in the community involving the “More Than 2” campaign, please know the campaign has been organized and funded by the Cheatham County Education Association (CCEA) and not the Cheatham County School District.

The CCEA advocates for the teaching profession and is not a taxpayer-funded organization. Its mission is to promote, advance and protect public education, the education profession and the rights and interests of its members.

At each of the countywide in-service kickoffs, CCEA set up a table, as it has done every year, to promote membership and offer information about the organization as well as information about the "More Than 2" campaign. Representatives from the CCEA were not asked to, nor did they, speak to teachers as a whole.

According to the CCEA, the campaign is not encouraging teachers to strike as this would be an illegal action.

The goal of the campaign, according to the CCEA, is to encourage parents and community members to support the efforts of teachers in asking the Cheatham County Commission to again consider fully funding the district’s 2018-2019 budget.

Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck said it is the district’s desire that the Cheatham County Commission and Cheatham County Board of Education will come to an agreement to support a budget that will allow the district to provide a quality education for all students.

It has always been a goal of the district to include a 1% raise for teachers in the 2018-2019 budget. It is also a district goal to keep distractions in our students’ education to a minimum.

Anyone who has further questions or comments about the “More Than 2” campaign is encouraged to contact CCEA representatives Melanie Buchanan at or Toni Hawley at
