Parents and Guardians,

What a fantastic week its been at Harpeth High School! Our freshmen have gotten comfortable with the school and their classes and all other students have gotten back into the swing of things. This is going to be a great school year!

This issue of Smoke Signals is going to be a little lengthy because there is a lot to share with you all.  So much has taken place since the end of last year I'm going to take some time to try and fill you in.

First, HHS is going through an amazing transformation that began over the summer. PPG donated gallons upon gallons of paint so we could slap a fresh coat on our walls and boy did we change the walls! Nearly 10 painting days and close to 100 volunteers during that time and we managed to paint the three main halls in the building and the office. Painting concrete masonry block is NOT an easy task, especially for novice painters. But we had so much help getting our building painted. HHS faculty and staff, several parents, numerous students (past, present and future), a volunteer team from the Bellevue Home Depot, Mr. David Risner (Board Member) and family, so many that made me very proud to be a part of such a supportive community.

The second transformation took place in the main gym. The gym looks SO good right now with a freshly waxed floor and the new painting scheme applied by several parents of students on our basketball team. A HUGE thank you goes out to Sanford Patterson who was the driving force behind the gym painting!

Between the halls and gym painting experiences, two people sacrificed their time and showed up to help each and every time something we scheduled a "painting party". Without these two around, South Cheatham wouldn't be the same. I want to thank Larry and Candy Turner for their continued support, sacrifice, and

dedication to the students they serve and work hard for every day. It is evident how much you truly care about this community.

Our third phase of the HHS facelift took place in the cafeteria. After years of the same bland tables we were fortunate to get new cafeteria furniture. We now have booths, high-top tables, tables with school colors and tables with our Power H logo. The cafeteria walls also have a new painting design to improve the overall positive appearance.

Ben Howell, our new Ag teacher, helped to facilitate the fourth HHS improvement. Recruiting students' help toward the end of the summer our landscaping across the front of the building was spruced up considerably. After some trimming and a generous donation of mulch from Mr. John LouAllen (Board Member), HHS increased its CURB APPEAL. This is the first of some great landscape projects Mr. Howell and our students have in store for our school.
