I understand that participating in athletics and representing Harpeth High School is a privilege, not a right that it is earned through Dedication, Desire and Discipline. I also understand that, by participating in athletics and wearing Harpeth colors, I am a representative of Harpeth High School anywhere I am seen or heard: physically or digitally. By signing below, I am acknowledging that I understand what is expected of me as an athlete, that I will be held to the high expectations listed below, and that I am responsible for MY actions. Finally, I understand that as a student athlete and the face of Harpeth High, I am held to a higher standard.

1. STUDENT athletes will maintain non-failing grades at all times in all classes - NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. STUDENT athletes will be present for the entire school day, every day that classes are in session, and especially on game days, unless his/her absence is excused.
3. STUDENT athletes will arrive to all classes on time and not receive Black Friday consequences.
4. STUDENT athletes will stay on track to pass each academic year and graduate on time.

1. Student ATHLETES will demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the field - before, during, and after each practice and game.
2. Student ATHLETES will have all physicals, insurance, and documentation in place before the season begins.
3. Student ATHLETES will participate in all team practices, activities, and games, unless such participation is excused by the coach due to an emergency or medical disqualification.

1. STUDENT ATHLETES will follow all rules and regulations set forth in the student handbook.
2. STUDENT ATHLETES will not earn any OSS or ISS of any kind.
3. STUDENT ATHLETES will not earn any Academic Detentions of any kind.
4. STUDENT ATHLETES will avoid illegal activities of any kind: alcohol, drugs, tobacco, vaping, e-cigs, bullying, etc.
5. STUDENT ATHLETES will not present themselves in person or on ANY *SOCIAL MEDIA, website, app, etc. as participating in or being involved with any illegal or other activity that is contrary to school policy.

2. I understand that it is my responsibility to help my student meet these expectations by: monitoring grades, discipline, behavior, social media, attendance, etc.
3. I understand that coaches may have additional expectations of my student athlete and I will ensure that my student lives up to those expectations as well.
4. I understand that I am responsible for paying any costs associated with my student's participation in a particular sport.
5. I understand that administration will only discuss MY student athlete's conduct and/or consequences.


CONSEQUENCES

Academic Issues - Suspended from team activities (practice, games, dressing out, sidelines) until the academic concern is remedied

Sportsmanship Issues - issues will be addressed by the team head coach unless the complained-of conduct is extreme in nature: ie: violence, racism, sexism, blatant disregard for safety

TIERED DISCIPLINE POLICY
1. First Offense - First instances of Black Friday, ISS, or Academic Detention will be handled by the Coach of the team that the student athlete is currently participating on.

2. Second Offense (or first OSS) - suspended from team activities (practice, games, dressing out, sidelines) for ONE WEEK (seven days) - Conference with student athlete, parent/guardian, coach, and principal must occur before reinstatement.

3. Third Offense - suspended from team activities for TWO WEEKS (14 days) - Conference with student athlete, parent/guardian, coach and principal must occur before reinstatement

4. Final Offense - Student Athlete and Parent/Guardian must present themselves to the Harpeth High School Leadership Team to determine if student will be allowed to continue representing HHS as an athlete

5. SEVERE CLAUSE - Any student athlete who is proven to be involved in any illegal activity will be immediately removed from the team and will face a calendar year athletic suspension from all sports and all seasons. Examples of illegal activity include, but are not limited to: use of drugs or alcohol, weapons, racism, sexual violence, and/or fighting

6. *SOCIAL MEDIA CLAUSE - Any student athlete who uses any social/digital media asset to offend, harm, bully, attack, threaten, insult, or demean another will be subject to the tiered discipline policy above. Any student athlete who uses any social/digital media asset to support or otherwise align himself or herself with a group or person in any manner that would cast himself or herself or Harpeth High School in a negative light and/or raise questions about the student athlete's character or moral values will be subject to the tiered discipline policy above.
